High-Speed Head-On, Wrong-Way Crash Kills CT Woman, State Police Say

The late afternoon crash, killed a New Haven County woman around 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4, on I-691 in Hartford County in Southington, when she slammed into a tractor-trailer at a high-speed driving in the wrong direction, state police said.

According to state police, Sharon L. Knight, age 54, of Waterbury, was driving a 2004 Mercedes Benz west in the east lane when she struck the tractor-trailer head-on.

At the time of the crash, the road's surface was dry and traffic was moderate and moving at a steady flow, police said.

Knight was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The tractor-trailer driver, Luis C. Herrejon, 53, of Portland, Oregon, was taken to MidState Medical Center for possible injuries.
